Billa 2, without any doubt, is one of the most awaited releases of the year 2012. It is a follow up to the 2007 Billa which created a sensation among young people.
Billa 2, however, is a prequel to the earlier Billa and would focus on how David, an ordinary man from the coastal regions of South Tamil Nadu, becomes Billa, the don.
The gangster thriller movie, which initially had Vishnuvardhan as the captain of the ship, later changed hands and now being written and directed by Chakri Toleti. Informed circles say that a new script was penned by a team involving Toleti and Eric Felberg.
Filming for the movie, which started in July 2011, was completed in May 2012. As the story is revolving around an ordinary man in South Tamil Nadu most of the shootings happened in and around that area and also took place in Goa, Hyderabad and Georgia.
While ultimate star Ajith Kumar reprises the role of the titular character Billa and David, supporting roles are essayed by Parvathy Omanakuttan, Bruna Abdullah, Vidyut Jamwal and Sudhanshu Pandey, all of whom make their debut in Tamil cinema.
The movie also has Manoj K Jayan, Krishna Kumar, Sriman, Sricharan and cameo appearances by Yuvan Shankar Raja, Gabriela Bertante and Meenakshi Dixit.
Yuvan Shankar Raja conducted both the background score and songs. The film has six tracks including the new Billa theme music. Sound-tracks were released on May 1 to coincide with Ajith's birthday and received a very positive feedback from critics and fans alike.
All the songs in the movie are written by Na. Muthukumar.
Billa 2 will definitely have one of the best visual experiences as its predecessor, as it was filmed with an RED EPIC Camera, becoming the first Indian production to be shot with it.
Billa II will be released by Venu Ravichandran under the banner of Aascar Films in INDIA and by GK Media LLC USA around the world.
The film, which was to be released on June 22 along with Saguni, hit a road block in the form of censor board which granted the movie an 'A' certificate, will be released on June 29 2012.
