A layman among commoners becoming a chieftain through his sheer humanitarian sentiments is the theme of Vijay’s 52nd film Velayudham produced by Oscar Films Ravichandran and directed by Jayam Raja.
Genilia is a woman journalist confident of winning anything by the sheer power of pen. Vijay is a milkman living in village with his mother, father and sister peacefully. As his sister’s wedding was approaching, Vijay comes to city to collect his savings from the chit fund.
When Vijay visits the city, it experiences explosions. The Police are unable to find out the reason. Genelia circulates handouts saying one ‘Velayudham’ would come soon to punish the culprits. And she also telecasts TV news saying so, to boost up the morale of the public. Milkman Vijay comes to city and does archana in a famous temple. When the priest asks for his name to perform archana, Vijay says ‘Velayudham” and the devotees around starts thinking that he was the “Velayudham” coming to find the culprits responsible for the explosions.
Did Vijay withdraw his savings from the chit fund? What happened to the ‘Velayudham’ envisioned by Genelia? Jayam Ravi has presented the film as a cocktail of comedy and commercialism.
Vijay and Suirya fans consider it as a stiff competition between the former’s ‘Velayudham ‘ and the latter’s ‘Ezham Arivu’. It may be noted that while the media also held the same opinion there were clashes regarding booking of theatres for the two films and Vijay fans were on the warpath demanding big theatres should be allotted for screening of Velayudham.
Let us wait and see what will happen when Velayudham is released on Diwali
