Amma Kanaku, a movie by Ashwini Iyer, is about mother-daughter bonding set in the backdrop of the latter's fear for mathematics. The troubvles of single mother trying hard to bring up her child is portrayed well.
Amala Paul plays the lead in the movie that is about the relationship about a mother and child.A remake of the Hindi movie Nil Battey Sannata, the movie is produced by Dhanush's Wunderbar Films.
Veteran actress Revathy and filmmaker-actor Samuthirakani play lead roles. Music is by Ilayaraja.Amala Paul plays a a domestic help who wants to give her daughter a better life.
A single mother, she works day and night with greater dreams. In contrast, her daughter Yuvasri, has very little ambtion in her life. Though there is good bonding between the two, yet difference of opinion crop up between them.
The daughter starts to hate her mom just like her grudge for mathematics.Meanwhile Amala Paul comes up with a novel idea supported by a lady doctor (Revathy Menon) at whose home she works as a maid as well as the maths teacher and school headmaster (Samuthirakani).Amala Paul much to the shock of her daughter joins the school, a classmate to her.
There begins a competition between them to excel in studies. What happens between them after that forms the rest.As a hardworking mother with bigger dreams, she fits the role well.
Amala Paul who proved in Mynaa that she can excel in emotional roles, re-establishes the same.Revathy is seen after a long gap and she does her part well. Samuthirakani is more a caricature. Music is by Ilayaraja and the BGM comes with his stamp.
Gavemic U Ary handles camera while editing is by A MRaja Mohammad.Amma Kanaku pits the mother against the daughter not just in their modest tenement but also in the classroom. The conflict between an adorable mother and an adamant daughter could have been handled better.
