Expectations run sky-high as Karthik Subbaraj comes up with Jigarthanda after a successful outing in Pizza a couple of years ago. Thankfully he seems to have lived up to all hype and expectations and eventually Jigarthanda lives up to the name Karthik earned in his very first film.

Interestingly, Jigarthanda is set in Madurai. Unlike other movies set in Madurai the movie doesn't boast of action alone as there is plenty in the form of romance, betrayal, comedy, drama.

The movie runs for two hours and 53 minutes and nowhere meanders away from the main plot. Jigarthanda has an interesting star cast of Siddharth, Lakshmi Menon, Bobby Simha, Karuna, Prathap Pothen among others. Music by Santosh Narayanan and cinematography by is Gavemic U Ary.

The film revolves around Karthi Subramaniam (Siddharth), an aspiring filmmaker. He comes to Madurai with a mission. That is to conceive a story idea and script for his next film that speaks about gangster and his lives in Madurai. So he along with his accomplice Orrani (Karunakaran) sets out on a case study on a dreaded don Sethu (Bobby Simha), who controls the town.

Siddharth sparkles. He is the pivot around whom the whole film revolves. Bubbly and energetic, he pours out right emotions. He is entertaining and engaging.Romance comes naturally and he is at ease in action sequences too.

Lakshmi Menon is cute and emotes well. But Bobby Simha walks away with all applause. He is there playing a wonderful job with his menacing eyes and baritone voice. Giving life to the film is Santosh Narayanan.

His background score is amazing and elevates the mood of the film. Jigathnda ends up an engaging film thanks to Karthik 's mastery.

Action aplenty
