Here comes Gajesh, grandson of Nagesh to try his luck on big screen. The maiden venture of Gajesh titled Kalkandu is a romantic story that comes with a message. It speaks about the need to encourage children to pursue their interest and is laced with romance and comedy.

Dimple Chopde is the heroine.Ganja Karuppu, Swaminathan, T P Gajendran, Muthuraman are also in the cast. Akhil plays a cameo.Karthik (Gajesh) is a happy go-lucky youngster.

His parents want him to study medicine, but he has other plans. He makes his parents believe that he studies medicine and comes to city. He falls for Karthika (Dimple).

There is a flashback to why he falls for her. After four years, the girl leaves the city without informing Karthik and he goes in search of her with his friends Ganja Karuppu and Swaminathan.

When the family of Karthik comes to know that he had cheated them, all hell breaks loose. Meanwhile Karthika gets engaged to elder brother of Karthik played by Akhil. What happens then forms the climax.

It is an outdated story and Gajesh has nothing much to do. He is bubbly though. Dimple plays a typical heroine, while Ganja Karuppu and Swaminathan try to evoke laughter.Nandha Kumar has woven a commercial plot to the story. It works out only in parts.
