Escape Artists Motion Pictures
A movie set in a semi-rural town. A story of a middle class youth set around his friends. These things suits well for an actor like Vemal. It’s obvious in Mappillai Singam.
Interestingly the movie loaded with fun and laughable moments has its own share of emotions too. Debutant filmmaker Rajasekar has taken a wafer-thin storyline but worked it up with commercial elements that manages to strike a chord with masses.
There is Anjali, Soori, Kaali Venkat, Radharavi among others who liven up the proceedings. As it happens, the movie is set around a Town where there are two groups and there is fight between them for first respect (Mudhal mariyadhai).
There begins troubles.Vemal gets under the skin to execute his role well. Anjali is not just glam doll, but does a superb performance that elevates the content.Soori's one-liners are good.
Radharavi , Jayaprakash, Swaminathan, Ramadoss and others does a superb show. Mappillai Singam begins on a brisk note and picks up momentum as it proceeds. Rajasekar's knack to ensure that commercial elements are well interspersed works out well.
But the lacunae is jokes that are cliched. At places Soori's tests patience with his repetitive lines.Mapla Singam is strictly for front-benchers.
Mapla Singam - Neither here nor there
