Sutta Kadhai is directed by debutant director Subbu casting Balaji Venugopal, Venkatesh Harinathan and 'Dharma Yudham' fame Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli playing the lead roles. Nasser plays a prominent role in the flick. Music is scored by newbie Harish Venkat, Prashanth of Madley Blues. Any movie of dark comedy genre is considered as blue moon in Tamil film industry. Sutta Kathai is one such movie with dark comedy.

Sutta Kathai story begins with two police constables, trying to fix the series of murder case in a village. The screen play has something interesting to the gist of the story since constables have read many comic books in their childhood and the same had helped them in fixing the serial murder case. On whole the movie is all about detectives solving a murder mystery, with traces of comic elements. The director has shot major part of the movie in places in and around Kodaikanal at nights. The movie backdrop is completely fictional.

Highlights

Newbie Subu has done really a great job breaking the usual equation of Tamil cinemas. One must appreciate the director for coming with a dark comedy genre movie to Tamil cinema. The movie stands unique with reasonable quantity of comical essence throughout the screen play. Director made efforts to feel audiences in a way as if they are reading a comic book right from opening scene to the climax.

We could well read from the screen play that director done lot of home work for Sutta Kathai. It seems Subu used many references like from Inaintha Kaigal Ramki for for Ramji(Balaji) Arun Pandian for Sangili(Venkatesh) , Oliver Twist for Jayaprakash’s character, the Goundamani’s famous ‘Kunjai’ sequence when Silanthi(Lakshmi Priya) gets blessing from tribal head , Samba Sivam comic book and many which are really enjoyable.

Several characters do not really show up any kind of seriousness needed to the screen play but packed with lot of fun elements like Balaji’s theft sequence, Sanglili’s ear deficiency, Nassar’s laziness and so on. Actress Lakshmi Priya appeared de-glam unlike other heroines and made her best in stunts sequence. Harish Shankar and Prashanth has done decent jog and music is another credit to the movie. The numbers have come out good though not extraordinary. The duo delivered the music that exactly get synchronized well the screen play.
