Actor Surya takes turn to take care of zoo animals

Actor Surya and Doctor Anbumani Ramadoss have adopted a lion and a leopard from Chennai Vandaloor Zoo and have taken the responsibility of feeding those for one year.

The zoo officials have extended invitation to public to participate in the gesture.

Chennai Vandaloor Zoo is the biggest in South Asia.  It is spread across 650 Hectares and provides refuge to animals and birds such that they can roam around freely. 

Animals as 7 elephants, 15 lions, tigers, 4 leopards, 8 deers, 4 Chimpanzee monkeys, and also camels are in the zoo. 

For these animals food for one day costs several hundreds.  It is Rs. 520 per elephant, and for lions and tigers Rs. 525 and for rhinoceros Rs. 373, and for camels Rs. 436.

Although the forest officials take care of the animals, noted people as Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, his daughters Samyuktha, Sangamitra and Sanjutra have volunteered. Actor Surya also has taken turn to care for the animals.

Some organizations also have volunteered to take care of animals.

Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss has made donation towards feeding of the forest animals.  His daughters as Samyuktha, Sangamitra and Sanjutra also have volunteered to feed deer, star tortoises and several birds. 

Surya has taken up feeding one lion for a whole year.

Last year 48 people volunteered to feed the animals for one year.  The zoo officials extended invitation to the public to donate towards feeding the animals.
