Agitators lay siege on singer Manicka Vinayagam’s house

Singer Manicka Vinayagam, with a troop of 25 singers, is to leave for Sri Lanka for music concert.  Cadres from Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam laid siege on singer Manicka Vinayagam’s residence condemning his decision to conduct concert in Sri Lanka.

A new Amman Temple has been raised in Vavuniya, Sri Lanka.  For music concert in the Kumbabishekam for the temple, playback singer Manicka Vinayagam and 25 others in the troop are to leave for Sri Lanka.

Upon knowledge of the development, District Head Annamalai and 30 others laid siege on Manicka Vinayagam’s residence in 14th Cross Street, Shastri Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur.  The protestors raised slogans protesting the staging of music concert by Manicka Vinayagam’s troop in Sri Lanka.

As the agitation was being held, Manicka Vinayagam was in his residence.  He rushed out for discussion with agitators.  He said
‘I have the feel that I am a Tamil.  The report that music troop headed by me is to leave for Sri Lanka for concert is false.  I am just one among the troop. They are to decide whether the troop is to leave for Sri Lanka for music concert.’

Following explanation by Manicka Vinayagam, the agitators presented a complaint petition to Manicka Vinayagam.  Shastri Nagar police rushed to the spot and arrested the agitators.
