In gala ceremony held in Las Vegas America, American beauty queen Olivia Culpo was selected the Miss Universe, 2012.  Leila Lopez, who won Miss Universe title the last year crowned Olivia Culpo. 

Janine Tugonon from Philippines won the second place.  Irene Esser, from Venezuela won the third place. 

Shilpa Singh, who contested on behalf of India, was the forerunner in many rounds.  But, during selection of contestants to take up the first 10 places, she was eliminated. 

There were many contestants for the Miss Universe title.
