Case against celebrities for staging obscenity during opening of IPL series

Following case against 10 noted people including Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor for staging obscenity during opening day of IPL cricket matches, the Madurai branch of Chennai High Court has issued notice to those people. 

Petition filed by individual Jebakumar hailing from Srivaigundam, Tuticorin district, reads as follows:

‘The opening day event for IPL Cricket matches was held in YMCA ground in Chennai the last 3.4.2012.  Then, dazzling events as programs by artistes and dance programs were staged.  During the event, Bollywood actors Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, actresses Kareena  Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, pop singer Katy Perry, and Australian cricketer Bollinger danced obscenely.  This has resulted degradation of Tamil culture.’

‘I filed petition that case should be filed against the concerned people and action should be initiated.  The court issued order to go through the petition.  But so far no action has been taken.  So, case should be registered against the concerned people and action should be taken.’

The case came for hearing in the presence of magistrate A Selvam.  The magistrate issued notice that actors Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, actresses Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, American pop singer Katy Perry, Australian cricketer Bollinger, should provide explanation.  Magistrate Selvam postponed hearing of the case to coming 31st.
