Censor official explains restriction upon boozing and smoking for movie scene

Of late, smoking scenes and scenes depicting one taking alcohol are on the rise.  Also, there are scenes depicting actors taking liquor.  Also song sequences are made in wine shop’s bar.  The song sequences in ‘Saguni’, ‘Oru Kal Oru KaNNaadi’, and in ‘Kalakalappu’ were shot in such a background.

Also, movie is made centering alcoholics.  Censor board has levied restriction upon boozing scenes and scenes depicting the actor smoking a cigarette.  Regarding this, Chennai Cine censor board’s official Pakkirisamy said:

‘There are certain rules and regulations with regard to scenes depicting smoking and boozing.  If movie turns out well and there are less scenes portraying the actor drinking and smoking, the movie is certified ‘U/A’.  But when songs are telecast, we do not permit such scenes.  Also, there is ban upon doing that in advertising trailers.  If anybody telecasts such sequences, it is rule violation.  Public may come up with complaint if such a thing happens.

When such scenes occur in movie, censor board has laid stress upon displaying subtitle that drinking and smoking are injurious to health.
