Centenary year of Indian cinema to be celebrated in Chennai in July

It is hundred years since evolution of cinema.  The South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce has decided to celebrate the centenary year of Indian cinema. 


The head of South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce, Kalyan addressed reporters yesterday. 


‘The South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce has decided to conduct the centenary year of Indian cinema jointly with Film Federation of India.  The events marking centenary year of Indian cinema are to be held on July 12, 13, and July 14th.  Once we receive consent from President of India, we would make official announcement.  Invitations would be forwarded to Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala.  Also, South Indian and North Indian artistes would participate in the celebration held. 

For the first two days, the festival is to be held in Nehru Indoor Stadium.  Art programs by cine artistes from two languages would be held every day.  Also, event felicitating those artistes would be held.  On the third day, the festival is to be held in YMCA Ground.  The President, South Indian Chief Ministers, North Indian film artistes would participate.  We are to accommodate all the Indian celebrities in one stage and are to felicitate them in the presence of the President. 

Individual committees would be formed to select and felicitate experts from every language, and from every division of cinema.  Also, a Central Committee would be formed to take the final decision.  Following the event, no shooting would be held in South India for five days.’ 

During the interview, Chamber Secretaries as Ananda Suresh, Ravi Kottarakara, and Treasurer Srinivasan were present.  A four storey building has been raised in premises of South Indian Film Chamber of Trade and Commerce.  Many private companies are functioning in the building.  The construction of second building is to commence soon. 

Offices would be built for the Chamber, Producer Council and other cinema associations.  Facilities needed for cinema would be available in the second building. Three theatres are to be raised.  Suirya and Karthi have donated Rs 1 crore for construction of Preview Theatres.  The chamber has decided to name the building after their father and mother, Sivakumar and Lakshmi.
