Chennai HC dismisses petition demanding ban upon ‘Viswaroopam’

Chennai High Court has dismissed petition by ‘Regent Saimira Enterntainment ltd’ demanding ban upon movie ‘Viswaroopam’.

‘Viswaroopam’ is magnum opus movie by Kamal Haasan.  The movie is produced, directed and acted by Kamal Haasan.  The movie is set for release all over the world the coming January 11th.  There are many hassles for release of the movie ‘Viswaroopam’.

As the movie ‘Viswaroopam’ is to be premiered through DTH one day prior to release in theatres, theatre owners have raised voice in protest and have warned that they would not screen the movie in theatres.

Regent Saimira Entertainment filed petition with Chennai High Court demanding that the movie ‘Viswaroopam’ be banned from release.

It had been mentioned in the petition that Kamal had signed agreement for movie ‘Marmayogi’ with the production unit.

‘Kamal Haasan did not return the Rs 10 ½ crore loan he received from us’, said the production unit in the petition.  So, the movie ‘Viswaroopam’ should be banned from release, they demanded in the petition.  The case was taken up by magistrate Vinod K Sharma.

Reply petition was filed by Chandra Haasan, shareholder for Kamal’s ‘Rajkamal International’.  Chandra Haasan had mentioned in the petition that they raised issue and filed case during release of ‘Unnai Pol Oruvan’. On behalf of Rajkamal Films a bank guarantee of Rs 3 ½ crore had been given, said Chandra Haasan in the petition.

Also, the petition said that another case has been filed with regard to same issue, and that it is act of deceiving the court.

‘Movie ‘Viswaroopam’ has been taken at a cost of Rs 90 crore.  The movie is set for release in three languages. If the movie is banned, it would hit both Kamal Haasan and his production unit, pointed out Chandra Haasan in the petition.

The magistrate, upon hearing the case, issued order that ban cannot be imposed upon ‘Viswaroopam’.  Also, he dismissed the petition against the movie ‘Viswaroopam’.
