Court turns down Hindi director’s petition

The Central Government’s health department and family welfare department made announcement prohibiting scenes in cinemas depicting smoking.  Popular Hindi Producer Mahesh Bhatt filed a petition in Delhi High Court against the announcement stating it is against law and the order should be cancelled.
The petition came to the notice of judges Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Rajeev Sakthar yesterday.  Mahesh’s side argued against Central Government’s announcement and requested issue of interim stay order against the announcement.

But the judges refused to impose ban on law prohibiting smoking scenes in movies.
At the same time, the judges ordered issue of notice to Central Government to file reply petition.  The next level hearing has been adjourned to the coming July 11th.
