Court order on Ilayaraja music

The Madras High Court has extended till October 20 an interim injunction restraining some music companies from infringing maestro Ilayaraja’s copyright to deal with sound recording composed by him.

In his civil suit, Ilayaraja named Agi Music Pvt Ltd, Echo Recording Company Pvt Ltd, Unisys Info Solution Pvt Ltd and Giri Trading Company from manufacturing, selling, distributing or in any manner infringing his exclusive right under the Copyright Act, 1957 to deal with sound recording composed by him.

The veteran music composer said he had not given copyright to any company through his wife as claimed by them. Hearing the plea, Justice S Tamilvanan had on September 6 granted interim injunction restraining the audio recording companies from manufacturing and selling compilations of Ilayaraja's hits without his permission. And on Thursday (October 16), Justice R Subbiah extended the interim ban till October 20.
