 How Na Muthukumar started his career in cinema?

Having lost his mother at the age of four, even as a child, Na Muthukumar sought solace in books. He graduated in Physics but opted for a Masters in Tamil Literature, and worked for a doctorate from the Madras University.

He initially wanted to become a film director. He went on to work as assistant to stalwarts such as Balu Mahendra and Hariharan, but his love for poetry had other plans for him. 

Filmmaker Seeman gave Muthukumar the opportunity to write his first song. The film was Veeranadai. Post-2000, Muthukumar's rise to fame was steady.

He received two National awards for his lyrics for the songs Aanandha Yazhai Meetugiraai (Thanga Meengal) and Azhage Azhage Ethuvum Azhage (Saivam).He wrote songs for films including Saamy, Kadhal Kondein, Thirumalai, Pithamagan, Kovil, Ghilli, 7G Rainbow Colony, Nandha, Ghajini, Pudhupettai, Chandramukhi, Sivaji: The Boss,
