Ilayaraja receives Centenary award

The International Film Festival of India 2015, held in Goa on November 20, got off to a spectacular start with a grand opening ceremony. 

The highlight of the evening was music maestro Ilayaraja receiving the Centenary Award from actor Anil Kapoor, the chief guest at the fest this year. Russian filmmaker Nikita Mikhalkov was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award. 

Actor Anil Kapoor, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, and Minister for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore. Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur introduced the international jury members.

In his speech, Ilayaraja said, "Make music compulsory in schools and colleges. Music diminishes tendencies to go violent."
