Indian cinema touches 100 years since coming into vogue

One cannot discriminate between Indians and cinemas.  Cinemas play an important role in the entertainment for Indians.  Although cinema equipments are invention of the English, Indians are in the lead with respect to count of cinemas released a year. 

Based on the number of cinema tickets sold and the count of cinemas made in a year, Indian cine field is the biggest in the world.  In the Asian Pacific part, 73% of the people viewing cinemas are Indians.

As per the statement given by Indian censor board regarding cinemas, every quarter of the year, people amounting to the Indian population view cinemas. 

In Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Bhojpuri and Bengali a mega cine field is functioning.  Indian cinema is in the lead with regard to number of cinemas being made in a year. 

In India, cinemas were introduced on July 7th, 1896.  A cinema company by name Lumiar Brothers Cinematography screened 6 silent movies in Watson guesthouse in Mumbai.  The same year, Madras motion pictures center advertised motion pictures. 

From 1897, Clifton and Co Company started screening movies in the Meadows Road motion picture museum.

After this a full length motion picture titled ‘Raja Harichandra was screened the same date, same month in 1913.  The one who directed and produced the movie is Indian cine field’s father Dada Saheb Phalke.

This movie which was made in Bengali is a silent movie.  In this movie, men disguised themselves as females and acted.  The movie’s first show was screened that date between 6 pm to 7.30 pm.  Even during that time, 4 shows of the movie were screened in a day.

By today, May 3rd, it is 100 years since the screening of the forerunner of the current full length movies.
