Joker adjudged the best in CIFF

Raju Murugan's Joker was selected as the best Tamil Film at the end of the 14th Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF) whose closing ceremony held at Casino theater in which the filmmaker and director of the movie were conferred with awards by the CIFF jury on Thursday.

The week long international film festival of the city came to an end on Thursday in which the CIFF jury had selected the top two films that ran in Tamil Films Competition race and along with another movie as Special Jury mention. Firstly it was Joker directed by filmmaker Raju Murugan, that bagged the first place at CIFF this year.

When announcing its victory, the chief jury member K Bhagyaraj said, 'Joker was standing out of the box when we watched a lot of movies to be screened in CIFF. The way they had dealt with the script and have insisted on the importance of the government mechanism and the sincerity of bueracrats'.

The jury also mentioned that political satire movies like Joker have become a very rare kind of releases in Tamil cinema and in the midst of that Joker which is also a perfectly detailed script definitely needs such a recognition.

After receiving the award for the best film, Raju Murugan said, 'Since day one of Joker we aimed only at least some societal change after watching our movie but not a commercial gain from that. We believed that some critical appreciation for the movie will be its success and this award has taken that beyond our expectations', he added.
