Kongu Vellala Gounder Peravai demands that movie ‘Gouravam’ be banned

Pongalur Manikandan, president of Kongu Vellala Gounder Peravai, has placed demand that movie Gouravam, which highlights communal issues, be banned from release by Tamil Nadu Government.

The movie is production by Prakash Raj and Radha Mohan has written and directed the movie.  The movie stars Allu Sirish, brother of Telugu actor Allu Arjun, and Yami Gautam pairs up with Allu Sirish for the movie.

The movie is being made simultaneously in both Tamil and Telugu.  Accusation is that the movie shows communities other than dalits in bad light and that the movie should be banned from release.

Pongalur Manikandan, president of the Kongu Vellala Gounder Peravai said in a statement: -

We viewed the trailer of movie ‘Gouravam’ produced by actor Prakash Raj.  The movie shows 60 communities other than Dalits going for honour killings arising out of inter-caste marriage, and the movie degrades belief held by the communities. Also, the movie is such that it triggers violence.

We do not believe in treating people as untouchables.  We are particular that every community improves with respect to access to basic amenities and financial situation.  But the movie is such that it would destroy unity between castes and religions.  So, the movie should be banned from release.

It is to be noted that the movie ‘Gouravam’ is scheduled for release in both Tamil and Telugu on coming April 12th.
