Lingaa protests withdrawn

Within 24 hours of announcing a begging bowl protest outside Rajinikanth's Poes Garden residence, distributors of Lingaa have agreed to the 'compensation package' of Rs.10 crore offered by the film's producer Rockline Venkatesh.

Apparently satisfied at the settlement, brought out in the presence of Tamil Film Producers (TFPC) yesterday, the hitherto miffed distributors, who were led by Marina Pictures' Singaravelan, today announced withdrawal of all forms of protests against Lingaa.

According to sources, after the distributors threatened to hold the protest Rockline Venkatesh spoke to TFPC president Kalaipuli Thanu and reportedly handed over the amount  This has brought to end the 100-day bitter battle that has been going on ever since Lingaa was released.

'There was some discussion on how to share the money, but we finally managed to reach an agreement. He (Thanu) showed us the cheque and assured us that the promised amount had been given.

Since we have lost a lot of time and money already, we agreed to the offer and have withdrawn the protest,' Singaravelan, who distributed the movie in Tirunelveli, said.
