May 17 association against Hariharan participating in music program in Colombo

May 17 association has placed a demand with popular singer Hariharan not to participate in the music program to be held the coming 7th in Sri Lankan capital, Colombo.

The statement released by the May 17th association is as follows:

‘In 2009, the racist government of Sri Lanka dropped bombs and wiped out a Tamil population of about one and a half lakhs.  To conceal all these, the Sri Lankan government is inviting Indian artistes for performance of dance and music events.

‘Cine celebrities and music icons, upon knowledge of the plot, are ignoring the events.  Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan respected the feelings of Tamil activists and ignored the International Film Festival held in Colombo in 2010.  ‘

Last July,  singer Mano and other artistes who were to participate in music program flew back as Tamil activists agitated.  It is to be noted that Mano commented that he wouldn’t indulge in any activity hurting Tamil people’s sentiments.

‘Last week, ‘Big Mountain’ music group cancelled its program.  The world desires hearing the song ‘Thamizhaa Thamizhaa NaaLai Num NaaLae’ sung by Hariharan.  So, Hariharan should understand Tamil people’s sentiments and cancel the program’ read the statement.
