MGR, Sivaji movies in cinema halls after strike

Following strike by producers, there are no releases in Tamil cinema this week-end.  In a bid to draw crowds to theatres, the exhibitors are screening yesteryear MGR and Sivaji classics, while a few are playing Ajith and Vijay movies that released in the recent past.

Tamil Film Producers Council have announced that there would be no releases in Kollywood beginning this week in protest against exorbitant Visual Projection Fee (VPF) being demanded by Digital Service Providers like Qube and UFO. They want them to lower the rate at which they provide their service.

Producers say that they can only offer handling charges because theatres should have their own projectors and servers.A theatre owner said, 'We have decided to screen Adimai Penn this weekend.

A MGR-Jayalalithaa classic, we are pretty sure that it would draw big crowds. Enquiries are brisk and encouraging'.Similarly films like Enga Veetu PIllai, Vasantha Maaligai, Karnan besides Ajith starrer Vedhalam and Vijay's Mersal are being screened in many cinema halls.
