Old songs are being remixed for songs in new movies.
Songs as ‘Thottaal Poo Malarum’, ‘Pon MagaL VanthaaL’, ‘Veththalaiyai Poattaendi’, ‘Ennammaa KaNNu Soukkiyamaa’, and ‘Aasai NooRu Vagai’ have been remixed.
Music composer MS Viswanathan has condemned this development.
Yesterday MS Viswanathan addressed press. Here are excerpts from interview he gave:
Question: What do you feel about old songs being remixed?
Answer: It is not right to remix old songs. One needs guts to do that. Remix is like threat to integrity for an individual. There is talent in everybody. Do something new. Use your own imagination. No remix please. Sometimes remix could falter. Do something out of imagination.
Question: About composing music for actors as MGR, Sivaji and Rajini, what do you feel?
Answer: I did not compose music for MGR, Sivaji and Rajini. I set the rhythm keeping in mind character in the movie. I combined befitting lyrics with that.
Question: Why is it that unlike old songs, the songs at present are not pregnant with meaning...?
Answer: One can make songs like songs during those days. But since there is much compulsion songs do not turn out well.
Question: Nowadays, music experts do not gather at one place for music composition. Why is it so?
Answer: As comfort increases laziness increases. Before, we toiled. Now, machine is there. Machine takes care of songs. I do not know to make a song with machine by my side.
