Oscar Winner Ang Lee’s ‘Life of Pi’ shot in Puducherry

Oscar Winner, director Ang Lee, shot his latest movie Life of Pi in Puducherry.

Ang Lee directed movies as Brokeback Mountain and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and won Oscar Award.

Ang Lee, who has directed the movie Life of Pi  in 3D screened the trailer and forerunner for the movie  to reporters in Satyam Theater, Chennai.

Regarding the movie, Ang Lee spoke:-

The movie is based on novel by Yan Martel, Canadian writer.  The movie has Puducherry as background.  So, most of the scenes were shot in Puducherry.

I have been conducting the shooting for the movie for the last three and a half years.  Around 3000 people worked for the movie.  I was taken in by the Tamil culture and traditions as I was in Puducherry.  Tamils respect foreigners.

I hired a plane from Taiwan for the movie and developed set like Pacific Ocean.  A tiger was created with help of graphics.  As one sees the movie, the tiger appears very real.

For an important character in the movie, we interviewed 3000 people and selected an Indian boy, Sooraj Sharma.  Tabu does his mother in the movie.  Hero for the movie is Irfan Khan.

The movie Life of Pi is made in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and English.

As many of our directors hesitate to reveal details regarding their movie, it is indeed surprising that director Ang Lee has not hesitated to tell about his movie.
