Oscar winner Mike Hopkins killed in rafting accident

Canberra: Mike Hopkins, who won Oscar Award for contribution in movies as ‘King Kong’ and ‘Fellowship of the Ring’, has died in a rafting accident.


Mike Hopkins did Sound Engineer for movie ‘Lord of the Rings’.  Mike Hopkins, from New Zealand was aged 53.  As he was travelling in a boat near Northern Island of New Zealand, he drowned as his boat capsized. 

Mike Hopkins won Oscar Award for his contribution in movies as ‘King Kong (2003)’ and ‘Fellowship of the Ring’, which was released in 2006.  He shared the award with Ethan Van der Ryne.  Many world famous actors, directors, and noted celebrities in cine field had worked with Mike Hopkins. 

Director Peter Jackson, in his condolence message said that the cine field aggrieves death of Mike Hopkins.  It is to be noted that Mike Hopkins had been recommended for the Oscar Award this year.
