Police seize pirated DVDs from shops in Tuticorin

Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam has crossed many hassles and the movie hit screens in Tamil Nadu yesterday.  Special Wing for Prevention of Pirated CDs received tipoff that pirated DVDs are in circulation. 


On basis of the tipoff, police personnel headed by DIG John Nicholson under CB CID wing for Prevention of pirated CDs and police superintend Mahesh, Metro Inspectors carried out raid in shops in Tuticorin.

 
Then, police found several pirated DVDs hoarded in 5 shops.  Police seized the DVDs.  Totally about One Lakh and Ten Thousand DVDs were seized.  The seized DVDs include those of Vishwaroopam, Kadal, David, Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya, Ambuli, and Alex Pandian.  There were some obscene DVDs also. 


As a follow-up of the raid, police arrested Khaja Muhaideen (29), Yasser Arafat, Sameer Baasha (21), Pechimuthu (31).  Also, computers, pen drives, 10 cell phones, and 2 motorcycles were seized from the shop.


Police said that the value of the seized DVDs and other items is estimated to be around Rs 1 Crore and 10 Lakhs.
