‘If anybody does something new in Tamil cinemas, others follow their trail. That is how the trend of conducting audio launch abroad has come to vogue. Before, audio launch for one or two movies were conducted abroad. Those were rare occasions. Also, those were held abroad for particular reason. But now, audio launch for movies are conducted abroad so as to reveal that the movie is a mega venture. Their purpose is to flaunt their power.’
Gautam Menon conducted audio launch for movie ‘ViNNai ThaaNdi Varuvaaya’ abroad. Audio launch for ‘Enthiran’ happened in Malaysia. Audio launch for ‘Uchchithanai Mugarnthaal’ was held in London. Music for ‘ThaaNdavam’ was released in London. The audio launch for ‘MaatRaan’ happened in Singapore. Now, arrangements are in progress to launch audio for ‘Paradesi’ in London and ‘Kochadaiyaan’ in Japan.
‘It is sad truth that producers do not profit in any way out of such audio launch which happens abroad. The expenditures as that for plane ticket, hotel accommodation, food, partying and expenditures for the event touch a crore. Who gains by this? The profit is for actors, actresses and those who participate in the event. They go for jolly tour out of expenses by producer. Those actresses who dance for the event get ample money out of that.’
‘Out of conducting audio launch abroad, not even one cassette sells more than usual. Tamil fans abroad download songs from internet and enjoy those songs. Even if audio launch is considered a promotional venture, Tamil people abroad are not taken in by grandeur of the audio launch event. They view the movie after mouth talk and viewing movie reviews in websites.’
‘Only if such extravaganzas which bite the producer’s hand are avoided, Tamil cinemas would remain healthy. If expenditures are made such that the movie is taken across to audiences, it would be useful. The fans form villages who view movie by purchasing ticket out of hard earned money do not come under these cine people’s attention’ lamented a producer.
