Rajini demands release of Sanjay Dutt

Markandey Katju, chairman of Indian Press Council wrote a letter to Maharashtra Government.  He pressed on demand to pardon Sanjay Dutt who was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment for involvement in 1993 bomb blasts.  Since Sanjay Dutt was not directly involved in the 1993 bomb blasts, as per Constitutional Law, Sanjay Dutt should be pardoned, he said in the letter.

Regarding this Markendey Katju spoke

‘This is not a heinous crime as murder. Although he is not linked to the bomb blasts in anyway, he has been arrested with accusation that he is a terrorist.  During the last 20 years, he has encountered many difficulties.  Every time he goes for shooting abroad, he needs to obtain permission from Court.
He has encountered many such difficulties.  His parents have done many good deeds to society.  So, Sanjay Dutt should be pardoned.

Regarding the issue, Manish Tiwari, Central Minister for Information and Broadcast spoke: -

When Katju speaks regarding a particular issue, government and others keenly observe it.  But, with regard to this issue, many things need to be taken into account.  Government would consider his opinion.  If needed, action would be initiated.
Also, Jaya Bachchan has said that she is to press on demand that Sanjay Dutt should be released.

Bollywood celebrities are opining that Sanjay Dutt should be pardoned and released.  In a development, actor Rajinikanth has raised voice in support of Sanjay Dutt.

‘The punishment given to Sanjay Dutt has pained me.  At the same time, it gives me hope as people from various quarters are demanding that Sanjay Dutt should be released.
Exemption from punishment should be given to Sanjay Dutt and he should spend rest of his days peacefully and happily. I pray God that it happens.’
