Rajini slams TN govt on Sterlite issue

Actor Rajinikanth today expressed his support those protesting against Sterlite industries, while Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan will join those protestors in Tuticorin tomorrow.

In his tweet, Rajinikanth today wrote, 'I am surprised at the silence of the government on the issue. Because of the pollution from the industry, people are affected with several diseases and hence they are protesting for over 47 days. It is a mystery why the government is not taking any action'.A couple of days ago Kamal Haasan, said that he will visit Tuticorin on 1 April to be part of protest against Sterlite inudstry.

Kamal said, 'We cannot allow a Bhopal-like tragedy to happen in Tuticorin.'The main Opposition DMK has asked the Tamilnadu government to order Sterlite Industries to shut down its unit in Tuticorin district if it continued to pollute the area. The party's working president M K Stalin urged the government to protect the people in the district from the pollution caused by the company's copper smelter plant.
