Raju Murugan speaks about Joker

Somasundaram, who featured in Karthik Subbaraj's acclaimed Jigarthanda, plays the lead in Joker which is directed by Raju Murugan. Sean Roldon is scoring the music.

SR Prabhu and SR Prakash Prabhu of Dream Warrior Pictures are producing the movie.Says Raju Murugan, 'I have nothing much to say about the film.

In a sense, it is simple. I cannot predict whether Joker would become a blockbuster. All I hope is that the movie would widen the borders of freedom of expression in our country'.Joker is a film about the ills of globalisation. 'Nobody talks about poverty any more, maybe because everybody now has a smartphone.

But do all of them have access to toilets?'According to him, 'those who market their products or politicians who seek votes just target one fifth of the population.

Even when the nation fought for Independence of the 30 crore people then, only around two crore men and women fought for the cause.

Similarly today, a small minority knows a lot of things, while the rest who keep changing their attitude fall prey to a 'power'. My film aims at questioning that'.

Asked about the inspiration, Raju Murugan, says, 'I happen to read a lot of books on Communism thanks to lyricist Yugabharathy's father Paramasivam. It widened my thoughts and ideas'.
