Theatre owners impose conditions for release of movies on Deepavali

It is usual for lot of Tamil movies to be released during festivals as Pongal and Deepavali.  During those days, about six to seven movies used to hit screens during festivals.

But, as time passed by, there was change in scenario such that just only two movies are released during festivals.  During festivals, two mega budget movies, and about one or two small budget movies are released.  But, for Deepavali this year, six mega budget movies are queuing up for release.

Reportedly, Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vishwaroopam’ is hitting screens on Deepavali.  Also, movies as Ajith starrer ‘Aarambam’, Karthi starrer ‘All in All Azhaguraja’, ‘Irandam Ulagam’ pairing up Arya and Anushka, ‘Vaalu’ pairing up Simbu and Hansika, and Vikram Prabhu starrer ‘Ivan Vera Mathiri’, are to release on Deepavali.

As movies are queuing up for release on Deepavali, there is difficulty in getting theatres.  Theatre owners have sternly said that a movie could be screened only following compliance with certain conditions.

The first condition is that the movie should not have controversial scene or dialogue.

‘We, as theatre owners, would allow release of movies with ‘U’ certification on this Deepavali. We would not allow screening of movies with ‘U/A’ and ‘A’ on Deepavali.’

Also, one week ahead of Deepavali, producers or distributors should produce certification from censor board.
