Following request by ‘Pasumai Thaayagam’, actor Vijay assured that he would not do scenes which show him smoking a cigarette. 

For the movie ‘Thuppaakki’, Vijay gave pose smoking a cheroot, which gave huge publicity for him. 

The PMK party’s ‘Pasumai Thaayagam’ association went on protest against the pose.  Following that, director for the movie, AR Murugadoss assured that there would be no scene depicting the hero smoking. 

But still, PMK did not relent.  The association released a statement asking why Vijay is seen smoking for movie even after promise he gave during 2007. 

This has reaped a result.

‘In any of my movies, I would not appear smoking.  I will keep up the promise I am making now’ commented Vijay.
