Visaranai in Venice fest

Director Vetri Maaran's Visaranai is based on a true story penned by a Coimbatore-based auto driver Chandrakumar. Interestingly it was selected in the competitive category at the Venice Film Festival.

He along with his team walked the red carpet in a veshti. Said Vettrimaran, 'There were two screenings, one for the press and one for the festival audience and the jury.

For the press show, they wore formal western wear, but for the second screening (the film has been allotted three screenings), the team decided to honour Tamil Nadu, and celebrate the fact that they were all south Indians by wearing vests. They were lauded for this, for; it was seen as an innovative ethnic wear by many there.'
