A joint venture of Sujatha Cine Arts and Adlabs (Mumbai), ‘Kireedam’ has Ajith and Trisha playing the lead. The film is directed by debutant Vijay who has apprenticed under director Priyadarshan.

The first schedule of shooting took place at Rajamundhry. In the 20 days schedule, some crucial scenes were shot on Ajith, which included a fight scene with Ajay Kumar who plays a rowdy here. Choreographed by stunt master Super Subbarayan, it had Ajith taking on Ajay and members of his gang.

The second schedule continued in Chennai. A lavish set was erected by art director Selvakumar. A fight scene was shot here too between Ajith, Ajay Kumar and 20 stunt men who played Ajay’s henchmen. Ennore harbour was the venue of some more stunt scenes. Canning the shots was cinematographer Thiru.

G V Prakash composes the music for the movie while the lyrics have been penned by Na Muthukumar. A song was picturised on Ajith and Trisha at Visakhapatnam and Rajamundhry.

The film has editing by Antony. Scripted and directed by Vijay, ‘Kireedam’ takes its knot from the Malayalam film of the same name. The earlier version had earned for Mohanlal a special jury mention at the national awards. The Tamil version has been re-structured and scripted to suit the nativity and times.

The story centeres on the bending between a father and son, the father’s desire to see his son fulfil his dream, and the hurdles that come in the way of it. Rajkiran plays the crucial role of the father. The supporting cast also includes Saranya, Vivek, Santhanam, Hanifa, K P A C Lalitha, Devadarshini, M S Bhasker, Meena Kumari and Mumbai actor Ravi Kale.

‘Kireedam’ marks the return of K Balaji’s Sujatha Cine Arts to active film production after more than a decade. With son Suresh Balaji taking over the reigns, the film is slated for a May release.
