Cine Interviews
Sandhya is full of life!

Jan 12, 2008, 19:59

From books to spotlight, it has been quite a fascinating journey for this eighteen-year-old actress who believes that acting happened to her quite accidentally. After playing heroine to Bharat in Tamil film ‘Kadhal’ there has been no looking back for Sandhya. With a couple of state awards and a Filmfare award under her belt, Sandhya has proved that acting is her main calling. In this interview, Sandhya shares with us her journey so far.

Excerpts from an interview:

How did films happen?

Actually our family friend, Manoj Krishnan who is also my manager now was into the portfolio business and he always insisted that I get my portfolio done too. It was he who took my photographs to Balaji Shaktivelu’s studio. I am extremely lucky to start off my career with Balaji Sir. It is under his guidance that the actress within me came to the brim.

How did your family react to your decision to join films?

Well, my parents had some initial apprehensions that got wiped away with the success of ‘Kadhal’.

You have also acted in a Malayalam film titled ‘Alice in Wonderland’. Share with us your experience.

To be honest, I was damn nervous initially since the film starred so many big names from the industry. But all my apprehensions plummeted only after I acted in the film, which by far has been a wonderful experience. Jayaram is an extremely happy-go-lucky kind of a co-star who kept us rolling with laughter all the while. My most difficult scene was when I have to throw a cup at Jayaram in a fit of rage but I was scared that I might hurt him and as such wasn’t able to get my expressions right. It is only after the third take that I finally got things right.

What’s been your most memorable moment in the industry so far?

There was this occasion when director Shankar came up to me and praised my efforts in ‘Kadhal’. It was truly a special moment for me.

What is your favorite past time activity?

I love to watch films and go for long drives. I also like to sleep.

If you hadn’t been an actress, what you would have been?

I always wanted to become a fashion designer. So I guess I’d have become a fashion designer if I hadn’t become an actress.

Brief us on your new film, ‘Kannamoochi Enadaa’.

I play this vivacious girl next-door kind of a role. The best part about this film is that it gave me a new friend in the form of Priya V, the director. There was many a times when I couldn’t get my lines right. But instead of scolding me, Priya always cajoled out the best of me. She is a wonderful person.

What’s next?

My next film is a Malluwood project called ‘Cycle’. It is being directed by Johnny Antony and stars Vineet Srinivasan opposite me.
