  • Nepali.

  • [Apr 22, 2008, 13:26]
‘Nepali, the name itself suggests that something different is on offer. But everything that is different need not always be interesting. In a way, Nepali has nothing new in terms of its basic plot. It’s the same boy meets girl, love at first sight, marriage, tragedy and revenge plot, but the script takes a slightly offbeat route.Nepali is the story of a young man, Bharath, who does odd jobs in many places during the day but assumes a dangerously sadistic persona at times.

  • Santosh Subramaniam.

  • [Apr 15, 2008, 14:39]
Love stories, especially when served with a sprinkling of family emotions and bonds, never fail to delight- they are evergreen. Santosh Subramaniam is one such movie, it is a tug-o-war between love and family, what to choose when faced with a choice and who will compromise, or would there be a mutual understanding - it’s a debate that’s been on for generations and will go on for all that to follow.

  • Yaaradi Nee Mohini.

  • [Apr 14, 2008, 14:22]
'You guys going to work'? asks a distressed and unemployed Karunas - accompanied by Dhanush - to a few girls waiting in the bus station. There you have the quintessential Danush plot: a jobless youngman, his love-at-first-sight, a far from considerate and a subject-of-abuse father, and a love embroiled in an inconsiderate relationship. Yaaradi Nee Moghini is smartly packaged with everything inevitable in a Dhanush movie. With subdued emotions that hardly ever go overboard and in your face humor, director A. Jawahar gets everything right. Well, almost.

  • Kattuviriyan.

  • [Apr 1, 2008, 18:43]
Horror is not often explored in Kollywood, but of late there have been a few who have shown courage to venture into the genre of fear. Such attempts certainly draw some attention but ultimately it is to the quality of the movie itself that brings in the crowds. Kaattuviriyan is the latest Kollywood horror/thriller experiment and deserves mention for being one among the rare attempts at exploiting the ‘fear factor’ in Tamil cinema. Sivi was the last successful one to do so.

  • Vedha.

  • [Mar 31, 2008, 02:10]
Vedha tells you a story revolving around the conflict between the family bondage and love. Though the family bondage overtakes the power of love, the love doesn’t get defeated. The deft handling of the conflict entwined with sufficient dosage of romance and action makes the movie watchable.

  • Inba.

Be warned that you cannot expect anything new from the movie. It is just yet another film showing a rich and arrogant girl falling for a poor guy. The teaming up of Shaam and Sneha after a long gap doesn’t make any magic, as the love between them lacks genuine emotions. The premise has potential to be an engaging film. It shows a guy, who has a bitter experience with love during his teen age. The experience makes him cynical about girls and love. But the movie doesn’t move ahead based on this aversion. Instead it relies on a clichéd track of love and action.

  • sandai.

  • [Mar 25, 2008, 14:25]
You need no introduction to the Shakthi Chidambaram brand of cinema- he makes movies purely for entertainment and most often they work. This time the director who had formerly specialized in Sathyaraj starrers has teamed up with Sundar C to provide Sandai. Most of you might be a bit unfamiliar with the title, the fact being that this movie went through a few title changes before finally settling for Sandai.

Love - it is the elixir of life. Love, they say can move mountains and melt stones. Nothing can stop love and when love is sacrificed for something more sacred, it is still love that wins. For it is love that gives us the strength, and inspires us to do things that our normal selves would not. Love isn’t always about possession or being together-sometimes love also means giving up, parting ways. There have been movies before that have shown love in this light.

When a director decides to launch a high profile youngster as an action and romantic hero with a typical and clichéd ‘masala’ film, there is little that you could expect from the film in terms of finesse and content. Director A. Venkatesh, who is known for formulaic masala flicks, has come out with a story that is split in to two parts as romance and thriller.

  • Vaitheeswaran.

  • [Mar 18, 2008, 15:17]
The theme of rebirth and reincarnation seems to be reigning high in tinsel town now. First it was Shah Rukh Khan's Om Shanthi Om, followed closely by Sila Nerangalil. The latest to join the bandwagon is Vaitheeswaran, directed by debutant Vidhyadharan. The story is very simple. While on his mission to plunder jewels from a temple, Sayaji Shinde kills a small boy who happens to spot him.
