Kalakalappu

Director: Vishwa
Cast: Napoleon, Udaya, Jaya Seal, Vijayalakshmi, Uma, Ramesh Khanna, Ponnambalam.

Kuzhanthaivel defeated by Velu in a kabaddi match vows to have his revenge, but realising that he is no match for Velu decides to patch up with Velu. But all his attempts to play the Good Samaritan to Velu backfires with Velu blaming him for everything that goes wrong in his life. Velu's wife dies and he is persuaded to marry his sister-in-law Divya. He reluctantly consents only to realise later that Divya was in love with her college mate Karna. Karna had entered the household of Velu by posing as a mute orphan and getting the sympathy of Velu and his family. Karna meanwhile decides to play the martyr by bringing in good friend Mini (Uma) into the scene to pose as the other woman in his life. Divya misunderstands, but soon matters are put in their proper perspective.

Napoleon doesn't have much by way of role, but gets to wear a lot of colourful costumes. Vijaylaksmi puts in some effort, but it is wasted in a bad script. Udaya's expressions are adequate, but he (It's his home production) needs to modulate his voice better. Some of the Ponnambalam and his Man-Friday Sukumaran's interaction-scenes bring in a few laughs. The film has nothing much going for it. Its weak script and listless narrative style makes viewing it seem a journey longer that it actually is!
