Movie:  Unnai Thedi Varuven
Film: Unnai Thedi Varuven

Director: K V Raju
Cast: Harsh, Ram Kumar, Vijaylakshmi, Bhavana, Avinash

A rehash of films like 'Bazigar' and 'Darr', the film centres round a psychopath Richie. Richie (Harsh) is obsessed with women, and when his desire is satiated he kills them. His next target is Chandralekha (Vijaylakshmi) who comes to the hill station for a vacation. Chandralekha is a popular writer who bases her stories on real life incidents and people. One of her pieces had even resulted in sending a man to jail. Richie is the guy's brother, waiting to have his revenge. The director has an interesting way of introducing the four main characters in this film (dubbed from Kannada).

With tourist guide Raju (Ram Kumar), Chandralekha visits the tomb of Golgumbaz (reportedly the second largest tomb in the world). A shiver runs down her spine when she hears someone whisper 'I will kill you'. She looks around and sees Richie. When she confronts him, his girl friend Lakshmi appears and pacifies her saying that it was Richie's playful way of teasing her. Despite warnings by Raju, Vijaylakshmi gets close to the couple. But subsequent incidents and Richie's odd behaviour makes her suspicious that there is more to Richie than meets the eye. She is proved right when Richie kills his pregnant girl friend and frames Chandralekha for it. The script is a little weak here. Gutsy cop Durga finally zeroes in on the culprit.

The camera gives some beautiful frames and is quite mobile enhancing the suspense element in the film. The script is fast paced and despite the weak links in the story, the director has managed to keep up the interest. It is a fine performance from Harsh as the psychopath killer. He has used his facial expressions and body language to good advantage. Vijaylakshmi (seen in Tamil films 'Poonthottam' and 'Friends') performs with credibility. Another interesting performance is from Bhavana as the aggressive cop. Ram Kumar (son-in-law of actor Rajkumar) has a soft role and is adequate.
