Vannathamizh PaattuIt is entertainment in typical Vasu style. A rural mileu, a palatial bungalow and a large household headed by Radharavi - former army man and romance-hater. He had decades back shot dead his sister's lover and got her married to his best friend Anandraj. Radharavi is a music lover, and Vadivelu his servant the favorite singer of the house. Till Prabhu enters the scene and replaces him, charming his way into Radharavi's heart - despite the fact that all the songs he sings sound almost alike.
Prabhu has come with a mission which is revealed in a flashback - that seems hastily patched up. Where Prabhu is shown in another bungalow bigger that Radharavi's and with a father who looks just like him - except for the difference in wigs: and a beard for the older one. Nothing new here that the actor has not done before. Radharavi tries to bring credibility to his role. But the character's habit of pulling out his revolver now and then puts and end to that effort. Debutante Vyjayanthi as Prabhu's love interest reminds one of as leaner Susmita Sen. But she seems to have problems emoting.
Manichanda has a more expressive face, and gives a good account of herself in her first film. Vadivelu despite overdoing his part, does bring in some relief and keeps the audience from dozing off. 'Vannathamizh Paattu' is so much a Vasu style movie that for those who have seen the director's earlier efforts, particularly 'Chinna Thambi' there will be a sense of deja vu.
