When was the last time Tamil cinema saw an actress playing drug peddler. When was the last time everything was centered on her and the unprecedented hype and hoopla for heroine-centric movie? Kolamaavu Kokila is here to answer these questions.

In a nutshell, the movie is about a young woman takes up drug peddling to make money for the treatment of her mom, who has cancer.Three cheers to filmmaker Nelson and actress Nayanthara for teaming up to hit a sixes straightaway. Everything and anything in the movie is entertaining and engaging.

An out-and-out Nayanthara show, the movie begins well and proceeds to gather momentum and ends up the best fare. Women empowerment is the crux of the movie. Every little character has a say in this dark comedy. Kokila (Nayanthara) is the wheel and axle of the whole script.

She pulls it off with her charm and elegance. Emotions, anger, cheat, deceit and helplessness all come out well through her in the movie. With a pack of artistes who ably support her, the movie ends up the best in her career so far.

Kokila is a typical middle class woman. She is the breadwinner. All hell breaks loose in her family when she comes to know that her mom (Saranya) suffers from cancer and needs Rs 15 lakh for treatment. She gathers guts to collect money and men she approaches seek 'favors’.

Situation forces her to turn a drug peddler. Her trouble doesn't end here. Murder, action begins. How she overcomes all form the crux. The dark comedy is maintained all through thanks to Nelson's shrewd writing. Situational comedy and conveying message or talking about real society in no way in a preachy tone.

Yogi Babu as stalker, Saranya as innocent mom, Jacqueline as sister and RS Sivaji as dad fit the roles well. Sivakumar Vijaya’s gorgeously back-lit frames are a major strength. However Anirudh's music and BGM steals the show. Kalayna Vayasu Dhaan is welcomed great. With Nayanthara's star power, Kolamaavu Kokila stands tall.
