Samuthirakani, who started as veteran K Balachander's assistant, is now a name to reckon with. Thanks to his thought-provoking subjects and the way he handles the story and script and purple with his performance on screen, he makes his movies a good fare.Joining the list is Thondan.

The movie directed by Samuthirakani speaks about various issues that affect our day-to-day lives. As a common man, Samuthirakani fights the system and makes sure that things are set in an order.Samuthirakani's nice handling of the script and the characterizations holds key here.

The movie has feel-good moments and there are enough for audience to get engaged.Vignesh, Sunaina, Namo Narayanan, Gnanasambandhan and Thambi Ramiah besides Soori does get their act tight in the film.Vishnu (Samuthirakani) , resigns from army to become an ambulance driver.

His mother is dead in an accident because the ambulance couldn’t reach on time to the hospital. Vignesh (Vikranth) is boozer who tortures his sister Mahisha Soora Parthini (Arthana) in the name of love.

But Vishnu’s honesty and kind-hearted-approach earn him the enmity of local politician’s son Mandiri Narayanan (Namo Narayanan) after saving the life of the latter’s enemy with his ambulance. Now Vishnu and Narayanan fights. There is a sense of upholding dharma and truth.

How Vishnu does that forms the crux.Three cheers to Samuthirakani who gets his act right. He gives a measured performance. He is good in emotional scenes too. Watch out for Viklranth who is tailor-made for the character.

Sunaina is cute and bubbly. NK Ekambaram’s camera and Justin Prabhakaran’s music are with a mention.Thondan is a lesson for this society.
