In cinema, there is a lot of gap between what a director says about a movie before its release and how it shapes up. But Veliakkaran lives up to what Mohan Raja had said.

The filmmaker promised a serious film with a strong message. So is the final output. Velaikkaran is a tribute to all working class people. It speaks about how they struggle against all odds to earn and unfortunately the whole money ends up going away from their pockets. In the commercial world, the need to give quality product, assure working class of their rights are well highlighted. After a big hit in Thani Oruvan, Mohan Raja goes a notch higher with Velaikkaran.

He takes up serious issues that affects consumers added to it some commercial elements and make it work.Three cheers to Sivakarthikeyan. He goes away from his familiar territory of comedy to deliver a serious role.

He shoulders the whole burden and thanks to his impressive screen presence makes it work. To see Sivakarthikeyan as an angry young man is a revelation. He gets his right with his subtle performance. Variations from the first half to second half are beautifully put out by him.

He dances, emotes and delivers what the character wants from him. Fahad Fazil does a superb show. With his subtle portrayal, he hogs limelight. His mannerisms and body language elevates the character.

Nayanthara has enough screen space as documentary filmmaker, Mrinalini.  Prakashraj, Vijay Vasanth, Rohini, Charlie, Robo Shankar, Thambi Ramiah, Mansoor Ali Khan and RJ Balaji chips in well. The movie is about the emotional journey of Arivu. A do-gooder in a slum ion Chennai, he wants his people to lead a happy life and youngsters shun violence and take to studies.

But the hurdle is Kasi (Prakashraj), who controls them. Coming to kow that his family is in financial crisis, Arivu goes for a job in a top company as marketing executive.

But soon he realise that all is not well. A shocking incident changes his approach. Now he sets out on a path to clean the system. How he does that forms the crux.Anirudh's music is top notch. The BGM is apt for the story.

Ramjhee's cinematography captures a slum and a FMCG company well. On the downside, a lengthy second half and no twists and turns mars the show. It is a Mohan Raja movie with Sivakarthikeyan at his best.
