Director R.C.Sakthi passed away

Director R.C.Sakthi passed away today due to ill health. He is one who launched Kamal Haasan in to the film industry through his film ‘Unarchigal’, which was started in 1972 but eventually released only in 1976.

Sakthi predicted the rise of Kamal Haasan many years ago in the industry and since then they have been good friends.  Sakthi directed ‘Dharma Yutham’ with Rajini in the lead and ‘Manakanakku’ with Vijaykanth in the lead role.

Sakthi was born at Puzhuthikulam near Paramakudi of Ramanathapuram district. He was not much interested in studies and evinced great interest in acting since his early years. He started a drama company along with his friends and staged his first play ‘Vaazhkai vaazhvatharkae’ in which he donned the role of the villain. Later Sakthi arrived at Chennai with dreams of entering cinema. But he could get only minor roles in some amateur drama troupes and then he joined as an assistant to ‘Villupaattu’ Subbhu Aarumugam of the NSK troupe who also worked as a scriptwriter. He has worked as an assistant director for film Annai Velankanni.

He has also directed films such as Naam, Thavam etc.
