TFPC talks tough to theatre owners

The war of words between Tamil Film Producers Council and theatre owners in Kanchipuram, Chengalpet and Thiruvallur areas has reached new heights.Several screens in these regions denied to screen Vijay starrer Theri that hit the screens on 14 April.

Produced by Kalaipuli S Dhanu, the movie directed by Atlee could not release in over 60 cinema halls in these districts.Though the owners of the theatres said that they could not agree to certain terms and condition set by the distributor of the film and hence the movie was not released, the TFPC (which has Dhanu as president) is in mood to relent.

At a hurriedly convened emergency meeting of the Producers Council here last night, it was resolved that the association will extend support only to theatres that readily came forward to screen Theri in these three areas.

A press release from the council said that the non co-operation would mean they would not allow release of any new movies in these 60 and odd screens.
